one candle on the cake
since we are in mexico on francesca's real birthday, i wanted to have a little get together to celebrate her first year with us. i typically think of first birthday parties as family only but since our family lives far away, i chose to have a little celebration with friends.
we kept it relatively simple. some appetizers, a big pot of this soup, homemade bread and cinnamon rolls (thanks kate), and a really big cake. michael brought home some furniture from yeah! rentals and the only decorations we had were two geronimo balloons which transformed our backyard. they are so beautiful and are still floating in my yard as i type this.
i sat and reflected on elodie's first birthday, when we were new to los angeles, and knew very few people and felt gratitude for all that we've built here in the last four years. our little ones are the best timekeepers for us and remind us of time well spent.
it was so fun to do the cake with francesca. we had a smash cake for her with a simple beeswax #1 candle on it. elodie did the honors and blew it out after we sang happy birthday.
francesca just sat touching the frosting and then fed a little to elodie. really cute!
